British Airways has announced it will be updating its loyalty points system at the end of November.
The change is said to be making it “simpler and more rewarding” for British Airways Holidays customers to earn rewards on their package holidays.
The new rewards system is set to be launched on November 24.
British Airways changing its Avios rewards system
The new system will allow members of the British Airways Club booking a package with British Airways Holidays to collect six Avios points for every £1 spent on the total package price.
The Avios will be calculated on the full booking value and divided between the travellers on the booking.
Club members will also be able to collect their individual share of the Avios or pool it together through a Household Account.
British Airways has said the change is making it “simpler” for customers to understand how many Avios they can collect on their bookings.
Customers can use their Avios to save money on their next holiday.
In the previous system, all customers could collect Avios from the price of the flight on their holiday package while the lead booker would collect one bonus Avios for every £1 spent on the holiday package booking.
A package holiday for two to Crete would allow each traveller to collect 11,316 Avios.
Previously, the lead booker would have collected 5,462 Avios while the second traveller could only get 1,690 Avios for just the flight element of the booking.
Andrew Flintham, Managing Director at British Airways Holidays, said: “For many people, a holiday is the ultimate reward, so we want booking one to feel rewarding too.
“For Avios collectors, that relationship should be symbiotic.
“A holiday should not only be somewhere they can spend their Avios; it should also help them build their balance towards whatever comes next.

“Our aim is to create a simpler and more compelling offer for our Club members.
“Whether those Avios help reduce the cost of another holiday, contribute towards a future flight or make an upgrade possible, it means the value of the holiday can continue long after customers return home.”
