SKIPTON MP Julian Smith has been made Northern Ireland Secretary in new Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Smith lost his previous position of chief whip, a role he was given by former leader Theresa May, in 2017.
He was seen walking beside new chancellor Sajid Javid as they made their way to the first Cabinet meeting of Mr Johnson who was voted in as the Conservative Party leader on Tuesday.
Mr Smith, who backed Remain in the 2016 referendum, has been an MP for Skipton and Ripon since 2010 and takes over this new role from outgoing Northern Ireland Secretary, Karen Bradley.
On his Facebook page, Mr Smith wished new chief whip Mark Spencer 'good luck'.
