BENTHAM Primary School has proved its sporting prowess after achieving the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
Bentham's sporting achievements this year include:
Every child in Key Stage 2 has taken part in a competitive sporting event this year
Gold medal winners in netball, hockey and basketball.
Netball team winning the North Craven Netball Finals and then the Craven finals, going on to represent the whole of Craven at the North Yorkshire Sport Games
Individual success in cross country and swimming with children going to the Craven finals in both events
Year 6 children beating the staff rounders team in a close fought game at the end of the year.
Academic success has also been achieved at the school after children in year 1 achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in a national phonics screening test.
All children met the expected national standard with some of the youngsters scoring full marks.
