Leeds Bradford Airport had a rather unusual departure this morning as cycling teams took off across the runway in a swarm of yellow for their event ‘tour de runway.'

It was the first time the airport has ever hosted a race on the runway.

Over 40 airport staff competed in the 3k race to celebrate the Grand Départ of the Tour de France.

Teams from LBA, British Airways, Jet2.com, Ryanair, World Duty Free, Multiflight and a host of other business partners joined the fun for this unique opportunity to take to the runway on their bike.

Team LBA triumphed with their top racer Blair Buss steaming ahead and crossing the finish line in first place.

Tony Hallwood, of Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “We are very proud to have the world’s largest sporting event come to Yorkshire, Leeds Bradford Airport wanted to commemorate this great event in a way that the whole airport community could get involved. It was fantastic to see so many of our staff, airlines and business partners come together to have fun on their ‘tour de runway’ today.”
