SIR- Thanks are due to the Council for leaving out the white poppies ('White poppies bid by Mayor rejected', Craven Herald, June 21).
Last November I was surprised when someone I respected saw no harm in white poppies.
It transpired he'd had no loss or involvement with any conflict and had not really thought about it. Rememberance meant little to him.
The white poppy seems to be a counterfeit idea that rather insults the fallen as the peace this country has today was paid for by their sacrifice.
