ONE of the things that Covid-19 has brought home to many of us is how lowly paid our care workers, both in private and public work settings, are.

Can we really continue with this state of affairs? Are we really prepared in five, ten or 20 years to look back knowing that we should never have let this continue, but did?

Surely we must have a national debate and lobby our MPs, of all persuasions, to put an end to the thinking that these people are unskilled, when they are clearly skilled in ways that have never been fully appreciated.

They deserve so much better than the low pay, little job security and working conditions that few of us would tolerate.

Perhaps we can look forward to a time when these issues are addressed by a kinder Government that has the will to address these issues and has different values at its core.
