SEEING the first three letters in today's Craven Herald (January 14) all doom laden and left leaning criticisms, I would like to bring a more balanced opinion of our current situation.

A small percentage of the general public share a tremendous responsibility for being selfish, especially over the Christmas period, when by their actions in disregarding the pleas from the front line NHS staff to observe social distancing, resulted in this inevitable surge in positive Covid cases.

I remember the aftermath of the war, (which we endured for five years), when people were more stoical and pragmatic; they didn't whinge about shortage of fancy imported foodstuff, as being an island under siege, we ate only what was produced at home and in season (no obesity then).

The loss of life at a young age was dreadful, so just think how lucky we are compared to all those people who don't have access to our creature comforts and the care of our medical facilities.

I have recently had my Covid vaccination, it was superbly organised by the Fisher medical practice; no hold ups, no pain, just a band of cheerful people all happy to please.

So be responsible for the sake of others and count your blessings.
