THE misleading story (Teens and young adults account for nearly half of all Covid breaches in North Yorkshire, Craven Herald, January 28) failed to focus on the real problem with Covid breaches. You chose to lead with ‘Teens and young adults account for nearly half of all Covid breaches in North Yorkshire’, instead of ‘More than half of all breaches are committed by older people’ and - most importantly, you didn’t stress that the most salient fact and explanatory variable is gendered not generational: by far most Covid breaches are committed by men (71.6 per cent) rather than women (28.4 per cent).
Young people are having enough of a hard time as it is, without being unfairly and inaccurately targeted for spreading Covid.
