I VERY much welcome the decision by North Yorkshire County Council to make permanent the closure of the right turn from the A65 in to Harrogate Road into Skipton.

I appreciate the long term solution there may be a roundabout but that is costly and the recent solution is a big step forward to improve safety at this junction.

What I would also like to see going forward to improve road safety is the introduction of a 30mph speed limit on that Harrogate Road from the junction with the A65 to the town centre.

At present much of it has a 40mph limit. Now that the 'Corner Field' development is well occupied and the new developments near the junction have started, it is the right time to introduce such a speed limit as applies in the other main routes into Skipton.

There are now numerous side entries into this busy (in normal times) road from Overdale Park, Overdale Grange, the Corner Field development as well as the turning from the Regent estate and the road from Embsay creating various hazards.

I understand a pedestrian crossing is to be placed next to the Corner Field development with Section 106 money to add a further hazard.

I hope North Yorkshire will seriously consider this and I shall be happy to seek support from Skipton Town Council to this end.
