I READ somewhere that the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority together with several voluntary groups is planning to increase the extent of tree coverage in the Dales.
I have nothing against trees but they do tend to obscure the view, drop litter in the form of leaves and twigs and branches – some heavy enough to maim or kill anyone unfortunate to be underneath at the time.
How welcome it is therefore to see the change in policy to install bright green plastic columns instead.
These are attractive; add a warm colour and their serried ranks add to the neatness of the countryside. I am sure that the many visitors who will be coming from the towns now that lockdown is winding down will welcome the feeling of being home from home.
The National Park Authority and others are to be congratulated on this new policy to spruce up the Dales.
