I write to offer support to Jean Robinson and the Friends of the Raikes Road Burial Ground.
I think that many of us on Skipton Town Council recognise the legal responsibility the council has for closed burial grounds and also recognise the importance of maintaining these important parts of Skipton's history. We also appreciate the great work that the volunteers such as Jean Robinson and her team do to maintain the Raikes Road Burial Ground. We are lucky in Skipton to have so many people prepared to volunteer in many ways.
I for one have had the pleasure of visiting the ground on a couple of occasions and can see clearly why the ground cannot be open at all times. I hope the Friends will feel able to continue their work and realise how much they are appreciated by many of us on the town council and in the town.
