SANDY Tod's idea to build a system of cable cars has it's merits (They do it in the Alps, why not the Pennines, Craven Herald letters, September 7).

However, it still doesn't solve the problem except to encourage a massive pile up of cars - in Settle. I note he lives in Settle and wonder if its residents would agree with him?

The "car disease" is a growing problem. Even an electric car is still a car.

This man-made invention appears to be here to stay.
