IN Remember a Charity week, (September 9 to September 15) I am writing from our local Sue Ryder hospice, Manorlands, to make a heartfelt request to your readers.

In my role here at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, I see firsthand the impact of the kindness and care our doctors, nurses, carers and hospice support teams has on our patients and those around them.

Our charity makes a huge difference to hundreds of patients in North and West Yorkshire, both at our inpatient unit in near Keighley and out in local communities across the county.

But with government only providing funding for one third of our Sue Ryder hospices’ costs on average, we rely on the generosity and kindness of our local community to keep giving our care and support.

Gifts in Wills fund end-of-life care for one in six of the patients we care for here at Sue Ryder. The reality is without these lasting legacies of kindness the care and support so many people rely on would just not be possible.

With more people than ever expected to need our care in the future – as palliative care is expected to rise by 55 percent in the next ten years – I am asking readers if they would consider leaving a gift in their Will to Sue Ryder.

With your lasting legacy of kindness, we can help make sure that no one is left to die or grieve alone.

Of course, we understand family will come first and that writing or updating a Will needs time and consideration. That’s why we have created a free Gifts in Wills Guide, containing advice and guidance on how to prepare and write your Will.

This is available to download at sueryder.org/Remember If your readers haven’t already, I really do hope they will consider supporting us in this way. This very special gift will let kindness and care continue, for generations to come.
