Whilst I agree with our mayor that driving on the new Kex Gill bypass is a lot nicer and safer experience than the old often closed road the councillor is obviously no aficionado on dry stone walling (Absolute joy to drive on new bypass, Craven Herald letters, October 22 and online).

In 50 years of working in building and civil engineering I have never seen such poor quality walling.

Dry stone walling maybe a dying art/trade and artisans hard to find but with spending millions of pounds on this project could the main contractor not have found better sub contract wallers.

How could this standard of work be acceptable to the resident engineers and inspectors?
