SKIPTON swimmers impressed in the third Airedale & Wharfedale District Amateur Swimming Association Gala at Aireborough Leisure Centre.

The last event of the evening, the girls’ 15years and over 4 x 2 length individual medley, saw the team win in a new district record time of 2min 17.80sec.

Club captain Ellie Phillips swam the backstroke leg in 34.04. Becky Lund, assistant coach, then swam the breaststroke in 42.72, followed on the butterfly leg by Lauren Hanson, who clocked 30.68. In the final freestyle swim, Millie Sharpe posted 30.35.

Three Skipton swimmers, Bradley Brennand, Harvey Day and Fenn Curran, competed in the two-lengths freestyle for boys aged nine and ten, and Fenn qualified for the final in a time of 36.76, before going on to win it in 35.86.

In the girls’ equivalent, Hermione Roe and Ella Bardgett qualified for the final in respective times of 36.86 and 35.24. Ella finished second in 34.10 and Hermione third in 36.82.

Matthew Housley was third in the final of the boys’ 11/12 yrs 4 x 1 length individual medley in1.22.75.

Five Skipton members - Rosie Guest, Niamh Mirfield, Megan Baines, Mia Douglas and Ellen Wright – swam in the girls’ 11/12 yrs 4 x 1 length individual medley, with Megan qualifying for the final in 1.30.46, where she unfortunately lost her goggles and finished sixth in 1.38.94.

The boys’ 13/14 yrs 4 length backstroke was a straight final, with Ethan Camsey winning in a time of 1.13.10.

In the girls’ equivalent, Bea Waller won in 1.11.84 after qualifying with a time of 1.14.02,

Ben Housley made the final of the men's open butterfly where he was fourth in 29.86.

Skipton’s Harvey Day, Fenn Curran, Bradley Brennand and new member Ben Fanshawe were second overall in the boys 9/10yrs 4x1L freestyle team event in 1.18.40.
