GOALKEEPER Sam Arrowsmith was Settle United’s hero as they clinched a place in the semi-finals of the Craven Challenge Cup.

He saved two spot kicks as his side won a penalty shoot-out 3-1 after their tie with Waddington had finished in a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

Waddington took a early lead when their striker completed a long run against a hesitant defence to score.

It looked like the single goal was going to prove enough despite Settle having the majority of play.

Arrowsmith made a couple of important saves to prevent Waddington from extending their lead.

Settle had to wait until the 85th minute for an equaliser. Good work by David Worthington enabled Luke Hepton to head home.

Holders Rimington and Skipton LMS join Settle in the semi finals while Barnoldswick Town EL and Pendle Renegades have yet to play their tie

Carleton Sports switched their game to Rimington and gave a good account of themselves despite being on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline.

Last year’s finalists Skipton LMS did enough to overcome a spirited Gargrave side 4-1 with Luke Howsen (2) Daniel Hunt and a own goal making up their tally.

Barnoldswick Town EL, after several postponements, finally won the tie against Grindleton more easily than the 2-1 scoreline.

In the Morrison Cup, AFC Barnoldswick came up against visitors Sedbergh Wanderers who proved too strong in a 7-1 victory while the Barnoldswick Barons tie with Skipton Town proved to be close fought.

The Barons won a penalty shoot-out by 5-4 after the sides had drawn 3-3.

The game ebbed and flowed with the score constantly changing hands. The Barons only equalised in the last minute from a free kick.

The Barons’ scorers were Luke Scothern, Josh Hinds and own goal while Will Knights (2) and Andy Wilkinson scored for Town.

A Carl Stanford hat-trick led the way for Hellifield Sports to record a 5-2 win at Embsay.

Dale Denham scored the first of his two goals before Embsay levelled and then took an early second-half lead with two goals from David Wilkinson. The visitors roared back to take the tie.
