ERMYSTED'S and Skipton Girls High School dominated the county round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup at Ripon Grammar School.

Their junior and intermediate teams won their respective events and now go into the North East of England round at Middlesbrough on November 12 with high hopes of progressing to December's national finals at Formby.

Ermysted’s Inters (Year 9/10) were the most impressive team with Harvey Lewis, Louis Hudson, Will Thompson and Sebastian Seggar-Staveley leading the way towards the front of the cavalry charge start.

Lewis finished second and was was followed home by Hudson, Thompson and Seggar-Staveley who were third, fourth and fifth respectively for a team score of 14 points.

Non-scorers, Charlie Wood and Matthew Kenneth finished seventh and 15th respectively, well up the list of 36 finishers.

South Craven Academy were fifth in the team event with Morgan Webster coming ninth and Finlay Whitehead 15th.

The Skipton Girls High School juniors were also impressive winners Alice Jones and Lilli Carr were first and second respectively while Mia Petrucci, seventh, and Freya Mitchel in tenth gave them a winning team total of 20 points.

Emma Peel and Hannah Jackson were the non-scorers in 11th and 12th, right on Freya’s heels.

Ermysted’s Juniors also scooped the team prize with Alex Thompson, Will Atkinson and Jath Lee all in the top six.

Thompson finished second with Atkinson crossing the line fifth and Lee coming sixth. Donnabhan Rudden in 12th place was Ermysted's final scorer for a winning total of 25 points.

Their non-scorers Hamish Wills 13th and Andrew Robinson 20th were also highly placed but guest Ben Rees did even better finishing tenth.

Upper Wharfedale and South Craven were both battling for a place in the next round. It was a close run thing but Wharfedale’s 58 points claimed the final qualifying position. Lewis Carr was fourth, Sam Headley tenth, David Lister 17th and Archie Smith 27th.

South Craven were fifth team with 77 points. Their scoring runners were Sam Smith third, Charlie Whitehead 18th, Addison Willis 23rd and Charlie Teale 33rd.

The Skipton Girls High School intermediate team, winners on the national stage two years ago, looked strong again as they swept to victory.

Emily Jones led their charge and finished third with Katie Atkinson fifth and Ruby Firth sixth. Their team victory was confirmed when Teegan Elson came12th for a winning total of 26 points. Lucy Fryers 16th and Eleanor Root 23rd were their non-scorers.
