CRAVEN Academy students have been showing off their judo skills in a tournament in Sweden.

They competed in the Budo Nord Cup and Kids Cup international tournaments which drew competitors from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Germany, Holland, France and Great Britain.

In the Budo Nord Cup, Elliot Marklew continued his transition into his new weight category with his first-ever win on foreign soil.

Ethan Tazzyman continued from his performance at the Kendal Colour belt event by taking a Swedish National Team player the duration on the contest.

Tom Dale was hit with a sickness bug just 12 hours before he was due to compete.

Despite still feeling the effects of this, he went on to fight and after struggling to get a foothold in his second contest he saw his opportunity in the ground work and took it excellently to win by Ippon.

Although all three boys finished unplaced all had meaningful contests and gained experience they can draw on moving forward.

In the Kids Judo Cup, the Howard brothers, Connor and Aidan both won all four of their contests with assured and composed performances using a wide range of techniques to win gold medals in their respective categories.

Esmee Holgate seemed to be at the lighter end of her floating weight category but got stuck in to some bigger and more physical looking girls.

Her well-drilled gripping strategies took the power out of two of opponents allowing her to take the contests and win a bronze medal.
