Northern Alliance Under-19 League Pat Rice Trophy

Nostell MW 4 Steeton 4 (Nostell MW won 10-9 on penalties)

STEETON were handicapped by a 90-minute drive to Nostell, and were trailing 3-0 after 30 minutes of this Pat Rice Trophy tie in the Northern Under-19 Alliance League.

Three balls over the top for their pacy striker did the damage, but the visitors then woke up, a couple of good runs from Freddie Binns resulting in a goal for Alex Briggs.

Within five minutes, another great run down the wing by Binns created a goal for Will Kaye, and the half-time break came at a bad time for Steeton, who stayed on the field during the interval.

The next 30 minutes brought no change to the scoreline, despite a few chances at either end, but an error by Nostell's keeper in the 80th minute led to a free-kick, which was thumped home through the wall by Ben Clarkson.

With the referee not being strong enough to keep control, the hosts went ahead seven minutes later with a hotly-contested goal.

A shot hit a Nostell player on the goal-line and rebounded for a team-mate to tap-in, with Steeton appealing for offside against the man on the line.

The visitors then battered the home goal, with Ryan Newall being particularly unlucky, but five minutes into added time Toby Jeffrey drove a shot home from 25 yards to make it 4-4, sending the visiting players, supporters and coaching staff wild, with the full-time whistle going 30 seconds later.

An epic penalty shoot-out was not decided until the 19th penalty, when Steeton missed to lose 10-9.
