Maisie Bellwood headed up a magnificent treble for Keighley and Craven Athletics Club as she won the Year Five Girls' race at the West Yorkshire Schools Games Cross Country Finals at Temple Newsam last Wednesday.

Her club teammates Katie Buckley and Alice O'Sullivan crossed the line in third and fourth place respectively as all three girls secured a place at the national finals in Loughborough this Saturday.

In the Year Six Girls' race, Keighley and Craven's Phoebe Midgley was narrowly beaten into second place by fellow Bradford schools runner Martha Jackson, but her silver medal finish also saw her qualify for the nationals.

A fantastic sprint finish saw K&C's Zac Jardine just miss out on second place in the Year Four Boys' race but a bronze medal ensured his place at Loughborough this weekend as well.

Zac had a busy day too, running in the Keighley and Craven Schools Cross Country League later the same afternoon.

There will be plenty of tired legs this weekend as well. The national finals take place on Saturday but just a day later, the first English Junior Fell Championship race of the season will be run in the Lake District.

Several of our local qualifiers will be competing in both, in what they hope will be a successful, if exhausting, weekend!
