DESPITE a fine century from opener Ben Holderness, Skipton CC slipped to a three wicket home defeat at the hands of Green Lane CC.

The away side won the toss and inserted Skipton in. Despite James Robinson being trapped LBW early on for six runs, Holderness combined well with Jack Forrester and James Mukherjee to keep the scoreboard ticking along nicely.

However, once Mukherjee was removed for 31, Holderness failed to gain any kind of support from the rest of the batting line up.

No other batsman scored more than eight as Holderness, who stroked boundary after boundary, was left stranded on 101 after carrying his bat. Skipton were all out for 193 with Green Lane opening bowler Chris Spivey picking up 5-40.

Skipton bowled well as they fought to make up for their disappointing collapse. Gary Owens picked up three wickets from his 11 overs and when he dismissed Bradley Hallas for 26, Skipton had seven wickets and smelt blood.

However, a fine eighth wicket partnership, led by Green Lane captain Neil Britton, saw the away side drag themselves over the line with only four balls remaining.

Skipton travel to Alwoodley CC next Saturday hoping to pick up their first win of the season.
