The event offers an excellent chance to meet and chat with like minded trout entusiasts, listen to some inspiring talks on work in the patch and even fish some of Yorkshire’s finest rivers. Early arrivals can meet for a pint at Jonny Grey’s local, the Hare & Hounds at Lothersdale on the Friday evening to get the proceedings under way.

Another event taking place this Sunday at the Skipton AA’s Embsay Reservoir is the planting of flag iris in the wild life area from 10am onwards.

Sport has again been affected by the change to much colder conditions especially on the still waters.

Whinnygill Reservoir has suffered a reduction in the number of fish caught especially among the coarse fish.

Brown trout are still moving and providing the occasional specimen.

Embsay Reservoir has also seen much poorer sport due to the low temperature which has at times been down to near freezing point at this exposed water.

Trout are still being caught with brown, tiger and rainbow trout showing a liking for the fly over the worm.

Surprisingly, the river Aire has continued to fish quite well and even the number of anglers fishing the water has remained high.

Some good fish are being landed on the fly and the worm with specimens to around the 1,350g mark.

Prospects should start improving on all waters by the weekend with a forecast of temperatures hitting the 20C.
