SKIPTON Rugby Club was bathed in sunshine for a legends game of rugby and a ladies Prosecco tea party to celebrate the life of Jodie Willsher.

Past players travelled from far and wide to once again play alongside her husband Mal Willsher, but this time, not in the red of Skipton but in a very special and significant “Jodie’s Giraffe” strip.

Their opposition was a Baa-Baas style team consisting of players from Skipton and other local clubs including Wharfedale, Keighley, North Ribblesdale, Bradford Salem and Colne and Nelson.

The scoreboard at the final whistle showed 41-41, but this was not the most significant feature of the day.

While the players sweated on the pitch in the blazing heat, the ladies put on their best summer frocks, and enjoyed sandwiches and cream cakes in the clubhouse.

On this day, life-long friendships old and new were created and renewed, the true spirit of togetherness, family, friends and love blossomed in a small corner of Skipton.

And they all knew one person who was at the heart of this.
