THE Skipton and District Veterans Handicap qualifying round was held at Colne Alkincoates PWA, and for the first time the league used both greens.

The Alkincoates club joined the Skipton League last season with just one main green, but have put in some serious work to bring back the second one.

It is now an excellent two-green venue and proved to be a good place to hold the qualifying round, with 31 entries all qualifiers played two games.

Settle bowlers were in top form with Derek Seed, Mick Duke and Stan Bargh all qualifying, Keighley’s Trevor Hargreaves once again made the final.

The Craven pair of Mick Demain and former league president Warren Burnett performed well to join the final eight, David Hemsley of Oxenhope and Steeton's Alden Phillips completed the line up for the final which will be held on Friday, June 22 at Silsden Playing Fields.

Last season’s JACS Merit League champions Colne Cricket Club are again heading Division One with 61 points, they once again look strong and will take some stopping.

Cononley A are second with 56 points, while Silsden hold third spot with 48 points.

Last season's relegated side Sutton A are already 18 points clear in Division Two with 60 points. They have won all seven games and look set for a quick return to the top flight. Oxenhope, Rolls Royce and Settle A are all tied on 42 points.

In Division Three it could not be closer as Craven A, Colne Legion B and Keighley B share top spot with 45 points, with Gargrave B on 43.

Grassington head Division Four with 68 points from ten games, though they have played most games, Lund Park B are second with 61 from nine, while Whinfield B remain unbeaten with 53 points from eight.

The Clarkson and Supplementary Cups have reached the quarter-final stage and the ties will take place on Tuesday, June 26.

Venues for the matches will be announced shortly. The Inter District Veterans take on last season's champions Bradford tomorrow with a 1.30pm start, the home match will be at Gargrave.

The Ladies Inter District will be held on Sunday, June 24 in Bradford.

Skipton Ladies are in a group with hosts Bradford and West Riding they will play the group matches at West Park green number two with a 10pm start.
