THACKLEY and Silsden both progressed in the Buildbase FA Vase after edging high-scoring games by the odd goal.

The most dramatic saw a Lee Spires hat-trick, claimed ten minutes from time thanks to a penalty, power Silsden to a 4-3 win at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Spires opened the scoring in the 11th minute but the Rail hit back through Frazer Lancaster just after the quarter-hour, and minutes later Sean Hunter added the home side’s second.

It was all-square at the interval, however, as Danny Forrest’s men were awarded their first spot-kick just before the break, with Aiden Kirby netting the 44th- minute penalty.

Harrogate went back in front when Hunter bagged his brace just before the hour but they were ahead for just ten minutes before Spires fired in his second.

That left Spires on a hat-trick when the Rail conceded a second penalty and Spires converted.

Thackley will join them in the second qualifying round after a 3-2 home victory over Northern League outfit Thronaby.

Luke Robinson opened the scoring when he put the Dennyboys in front in the 18th minute but the sides were on terms at the break after Jordan Wilson had equalised.

Player-manager Pat McGuire restored the Dennnyboys’ lead early in the second half, and just four minutes later Robinson bagged his brace.

Thornaby did cut the deficit thanks to a last-minute consolation by Lewis Murphy.

Liversedge are out after a narrow defeat following extra-time at Winsford United.

Rhys Davies had given Sedge the lead just before the half-hour and they held that slender advantage until ten minutes from the end of normal time when Michael Koral equalised.

That took the tie into extra-time, and in the 104th minute the home side’s Peter Watling struck the winner.

Eccleshill United have also exited the competition – after a narrow home defeat. The Eagles hosted Hebburn Town, and the Northern League side headed back to the north east in high spirits after Michael Richardson’s 17th-minute strike proved the only goal of the game.

Campion also faced a Northern League outfit but it was the Black and Reds who had to do the travelling.

Billingham Town were the hosts and they eased to a 2-0 victory after goalless first half.

Craig Hutchinson broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, and ten minutes later Jamie Davis added the home side’s second.
