Prestwich 3

Steeton 1

STEETON fell to another defeat in Hallmark Security League Division One North as Prestwich struck twice in the last 18 minutes to secure a victory over Roy Mason's men.

The first effort of the game came from the hosts as a long-range effort was struck, but Steeton goalkeeper Alfie Stevens-Neale was on hand to hold in what would be the first of many saves for him.

The next chance also came the way of the hosts but this time Stevens-Neale wasn't required.

The Prestwich winger beat Toby Jeffrey in the area before crossing to the striker who had an empty net to aim for and scuffed his header wide.

The visitors ventured into the game shortly after. Stevens-Neale again was involved. His free-kick caused minor pandemonium in the host's third. James Grogan met it but his bending effort didn't find the target.

However, it was only for a minute later. Another header for Prestwich, this time there was no preventing it as it was headed home by the striker as Steeton went behind.

Not more than a few seconds later Stevens-Neale was beaten before the upright came to his rescue before the home side's penetration continued as they missed another guilt-edged opportunity.

Steeton came forward again. This time, Jeffrey sent in a trademark delivery which met the head of Ben Clarkson, but his effort looped over.

Tom Leach went into the referee's notebook and as the hosts wasted the resulted free-kick Angus Maney found himself smashing home at the other end only a few seconds later after a low cross from Andy Briggs was drilled in and put home.

Maney could have had his and Steeton's second five minutes from half-time. He raced through again after the continued efforts of Tim Hird and Ben Richardson in midfield started to carve out a few more chances. Maney bore down on goal but only found the side of the net.

However, there was still time for Stevens-Neale to bail the Chevrons out. A close-range smother save denied the striker before tipping over the resulting effort to keep it level going into the break.

The second-half, like many before involving Steeton, started and continued without incident for the first period of it. Ben Clarkson's header, stopped by former Silsden keeper Callum Jakovlevs was just about the only noteworthy effort on goal.

Mason introduced a striker on 65 minutes as Aaron Hollindrake was eased back in. He came on for goalscorer Maney in an attempt to seize a much-needed winner.

Only a minute after it nearly paid off. However it was Richardson with the volley from the edge, well held again by Jakovlevs. New signing Bobby Carter was introduced as Steeton pressed once more.

Briggs was withdrawn for Jordan Wilmore for Steeton.

The visitors almost scored. Hollindrake's solo effort was thwarted and Prestwich countered and capitalised on a sloppy mistake to restore their lead.

The game continued to pass without incident until 81 minutes when a huge chance was blazed over before the hosts killed the game, sweeping the ball beyond Stevens-Neale for their third.
