Embsay u16s 0

Steeton u16s 4

STEETON'S start to the game was electric, straight on the front foot, forcing Embsay back from the start of this League Cup tie.

Harris Khan, playing back in the centre of midfield, won the ball and played the a lovely switch pass to the left to Lewis Gardner. He burst passed the Embsay full-back to the by-line before cutting the ball back to Ben Sharp, who neatly slotted home.

Two minutes later Joel Oxford picked the ball up on the halfway line and drove powerfully towards goal before shooting, it looked in until the Embsay goalkeeper saved brilliantly, deflecting the ball wide for a corner.

The second goal for Steeton came on 15 minutes. Embsay failed to clear the ball and it fell to Daniel Ambler, who bulldozed his way through the defenders, before calmly slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the net.

Embsay then had a good 10-minute spell when, on 17 minutes, Steeton goalkeeper Bradley Picken saved a goalbound effort with his feet from the Embsay number eight.

Five minutes later Embsay went even closer when a 25-yard strike hit the inside of the post before bouncing back out into the grateful arms of Picken.

Steeton continued to cause problems for the hosts with Barney Cope and Sam Woodward attacking down both wings, delivering some lovely crosses into the box.

Jacob Ambler went close to scoring on 35 minutes when his shot from 12 yards out was somehow kept out by a combination of the Embsay defence and goalkeeper.

Ambler didn't have to wait long for his first goal in a Steeton shirt. Five minutes later Steeton forced a corner down the right-hand side, following good work by Joe Lee. Cope swung in a lovely corner which caused chaos in the box before the ball fell to sniffer Ambler who forced the ball home.

The second half felt much more of an even contest with the visitors perhaps relaxing a bit and also making a couple of changes due to injury.

Sam Woodward was replaced at half time with a hamstring problem by Arran Hainsworth.

Both teams created chances with Picken making a couple more smart saves. However it was the Chevrons who scored next.

Another lovely corner from Barney was met on the half-volley by Gardner to make it 4-0.
