BARNOLDSWICK Town had a disappointing 2-2 draw against Irlam on Saturday.

Irlam, who had won only one game Hallmark Security League's Premier Division, got two goals from Connor Martin to beat Town at Silentnight Stadium.

Barnoldswick had the first half chance when a cross from Gareth Hill was too high for Harry Thompson.

Town keeper Ryan Livesey kept out Irlam when he made a brilliant penalty save.

Town were looking disjointed and with 22 minutes gone, there was a break in play when an Irlam player went down injured.

From the restart, a shot from Zack Dale forced a great save from the Irlam keeper, resulting in a corner to Town.

Dale was on the mark in the 29th minute when he smashed a goal into the top corner, putting Barnoldswick 1-0 up.

Although Town played well in the final 15 minutes of the half, their play did not result in any chances and maintained their lead at half-time.

Irlam were on top early in the second half, as they forced a corner and then they scored the first of their goals when Martin slotted home in the 61st minute.

Town made their first change when Mark Threlfall came on for Gareth Hill, who suffered from lack of service.

Although their play in the second half lacked punch, Town got their second goal in the 68th minute when substitute Adam Latham, making his debut, smashed the ball into the back of the net at the third time of asking.

Dale did take another shot to test the Irlam keeper, but it was the visitors who created the next opportunity.

With just five minutes to go, Martin secured his brace to make it 2-2.

They then held out for a draw, securing a point against Town who are fourth in the table.
