ECCLESHILL United recorded an excellent 3-0 win at high-flying Penistone Church last weekend and new signing Josh Grant believes that more performances like that can see the Eagles mount an unlikely promotion push.

The left back, who has dropped down a division from Ossett United, said: "When I spoke to Sean (Regan) I made it clear I wanted to play as high as possible.

"With the lads here, a lot can and have played higher, so I think we are capable of going up, and I can get there with Eccleshill.”

Speaking after the Penistone game, he enthused: “I hadn’t played for a month or so, so it was good to get 90 minutes. I knew a few of the boys before signing so I know the quality we’ve got, and it was a really good result for us.”

The victory pushes Eccleshill up to 10th in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, and they can move up a few more places in a congested mid-table with a weekend win at Handsworth Parramore.

Thackley are third-bottom but they will not get a better chance for an away victory than tomorrow's trip to rock-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Liversedge host Eccleshill's previous opponents Penistone, while Albion Sports have a free week.

Campion are in fine form in Division One and currently sit second. They should have little trouble extending that run with three points at struggling Skegness Town.

Farsley Celtic won a thrilling clash 3-2 at home to Bamber Bridge in midweek to move up to fifth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division and they will hope to continue their good league form with an away success at fellow Celts, Stalybridge.

Promotion candidates Brighouse Town suffered a setback in the Evo-Stik East on Tuesday as lowly Cleethorpes Town stole a 1-1 draw thanks to an injury-time penalty.

They will expect to bounce back, and go second, with a win at 14th-placed AFC Mansfield.

Finally, Silsden and Steeton are both in Macron Cup First Round action. The former host Garstang, while the latter visit struggling Maine Road, who inexplicably won their last game 6-5 against league leaders Abbey Hulton United.
