SKIPTON Golf Club has teed up a special event to celebrate its milestone 125th anniversary this year.

An end of season dinner to mark 125 years of the club's existence will be staged on Friday, November 23, at the recently refurbished clubhouse.

Open to all-comers – both members and non-members – the dinner has a high profile speaker in local sports psychologist Dr Dave Houlston.

Over the past 40 years, he has worked at universities in both the UK and North America in a professional development role after first gaining PhD in Psychology and subsequently becoming a chartered sport and exercise psychologist and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society.

Dr Houlston, who lives on Silsden, has also been involved in coaching and coach education, primarily for the English Football Association for almost 20 years as a consultant performance educator in psychology.

He continues to provide educational workshops for lite coaches within the FA’s coaching programme at the National Football Centre and has worked with many ex-professional players, including the current England manger Gareth Southgate, Phil Neville, Roy Keane and Dwight Yorke.

Dr Houlston has also worked as a performance psychologist with people in other sports, including cricketers, skiers, archers, and golfers.

He is himself a former member of Skipton Golf Club, currently playing to a handicap of 12 at Bracken Ghyll Golf Club.

Tickets, which cost £25, include a Prosecco reception and three-course meal with coffee.
