The Smart & Cook inc Slater Marchant Craven Challenge Cup early stages were competed for last Saturday although due to cricket calls only five games took place, ironically in cricket like conditions.
Both Skipton sides won through to the next round, LMS defeating Grassington United in a high scoring encounter by 7-4 while Town beat lowly Bradley by 3-1.
LMS were three goals to the good inside 16 minutes thanks to a superb hat-trick by Ian Craven and Grassington weathered to storm to reduce the arrears before half-time.
Steve Carling put LMS further in front with a great piece of individual skill beating the keeper from all of 50 yards as Grassington played their best football of the match pulling two goals back to 4-3.
Then Ian Tyrer, John Allan and Ian Craven's fourth sealed the game but not before Grassington ended the scoring with a speculative that deceived the home goalkeeper.
It was an even first-half in the Town- Bradley match with few chances to either side and as Town began to control the match so they scored.
The second-half followed a similar pattern with Town scoring the second goal and Bradley were given hope when a Town player scored a own goal only for Town to seal the tie with a well taken third goal.
Barnoldswick Barons had the long trek to Sedbergh and were beaten 3-0 in a very sporting game.
Oliver Wales and a own goal made up the home team scorers who were relieved to get a victory with a young side following the resignation of the first team manager and Sedbergh club stalwart Kevin Kirby standing in.
The 65 year-old Ray Akrigg officiated in this match and complimented both sides on their sporting attitude.
Pendle Athletic recorded a single goal win at Gargrave although it required a goal deep into extra-time to secure the win.
Both sides hit the woodwork before a goalmouth scramble resulted in Michael Reynolds forcing the winner in a game that had little to choose between the sides. A good word of praise for the referee David Helliwell from both sides.
Settle United led by former Waddington player David Harrison were another side to lose in extra-time.
It was Harrison who gave Settle the lead but the game ebbed and flowed with each side cancelling each other out as each time Settle took the lead the home team drew level.
It was 3-3 at full time and extra-time resulted in Waddington securing the tie with two late goals when a re-play looked certain.
Settle's two other goals were scored by Steven Mounsey on his return to the club.
Only two Norman Pratt Trophy matches were played with Kelbrook Reserves defeating Grindleton Reserves by 4-2 and Dent's long trip to Clitheroe rewarded with 3-1 victory over Waddington Reserves.
The Kelbrook match was also played in a very sporting manner with both teams playing good football on a lovely surface.
The home team were two goals up before Grindleton levelled matters and they then missed several easy chances to put the game beyond Kelbrook, and as is the case Kelbrook came back and scored two late goals in a match that was very well refereed in his first Association game by 17 year-old Thomas Davey.
Credit to both sides for their attitude in allowing him to referee the game without showing dissent to his decisions.
Daniel Rowe claimed a hat-trick and sub Leon Wright scored the third for Kelbrook while Steve Pinder had a brace for the gallant losers.
Waddington Reserves had an early lead against their Westmoreland League opposition Dent Reserves but once Dent had levelled before half-time they took control and with the wind behind them in the second-half they scored two more goals.
With steadier finishing the margin could have been greater.
Due to the cup matches few league games were played and everyone will be looking forward to this weekend's full fixture list.
Earby Town won the West Craven derby match against Rolls Royce Reserves by 2-0.
With the wind at their backs they had a early breakthrough when James Oldroyd scored and extended the lead when Paul Oldroyd scored from a angle.
Town could have had more goals but for the Rolls keeper Andrew Fisher who gave a brilliant display throughout.
Rolls with the elements in their favour pressed strongly but could not take their opportunities and were resigned to their third consecutive defeat.
Settle United Reserves entertained Silsden White Star and produced a win by 5-3.
In a end-to-end match Settle scored two late goals to record a second successive win. Goals were scored by Airey (2), McGoldrick (2) and Matthew.
