THE big FA Trophy derby at Throstle Nest was a one-sided affair as hosts Farsley Celtic eased past near neighbours Brighouse Town 4-1 to book their place in the second round.

It was possibly closer than the scoreline suggests and Town certainly created chances, but the Celts were deserved winners. The hosts took the game away from their visitors with some clinical finishing in the second half.

Town had an early penalty shout and Celts keeper Kyle Trenerry pulled off a good save to deny Aaron Martin before the home side broke the deadlock. A shot from George Hornshaw, from inside the area, hit Town keeper Jordan Porter and looped into the net.

It was the only goal of the first half but Adam Lakeland’s men negated any half-time rallying cry Town boss Vill Powell may have issued by doubling their lead three minutes after the break.

A 48th minute corner was knocked down to Jimmy Spencer and he slotted in at the foot of the post.

There were chances at both ends before the Celts grabbed a three-goal lead, former Brighouse striker Nathan Cartman firing in after good work by Paul Walker and Isaac Baldwin.

James Hurtley cut the deficit with a superb strike three minutes later but the Celts regained their three-goal advantage when substitute Matthias Britton rounded Porter and slotted in to complete the scoring nine minutes from time.

Town boss Powell had no arguments with the result. He said: “The better side won. It’s been frustrating because we started off okay and there was not much between the sides until they scored. They got their goal because we switched off at the back.

“Going in 1-0 down, we were still in it and we've showed the character in the past to come back out and cause the opposition problems, but we haven’t done that.

"Against good opposition, which they were, we needed to be more at it but we didn’t show enough and ultimately that’s why we lost 4-1.”
