MACRON CUP

Barnoldswick Town 3

Wythenshawe Amateurs 0

A PAIR of Zack Dale goals saw Barnoldswick Town knock Wythenshawe Amateurs out of second round of the Macron Cup on Saturday.

Dale's goals both came in the first half and substitute Teal Amos added a third, as Town blanked the visitors, who are third in the First Division South, 3-0 at Silentnight Stadium.

Dale had Town's first chance, but his goalbound strike forced a fine save by keeper Martin Blain.

After an even first 20 minutes, a great finish by Dale gave Barnoldswick a 1-0 lead.

Dale then teed up Jack Coop, but his header lacked direction. On the next attack Coop then set up Dale, who denied by another fine save by the keeper.

Town then went 2-0 up when Dale despatched a great through ball.

Ryan Livesey then showed what a great keeper he is by making a great save before half-time.

He then made a flying save early in the second half as Wythenshawe pressed the home team.

Town made three changes in the second half, and one of those substitutes, Teal Amos, came on to score the third goal of the game.

And Wythenshawe captain Christoper Howard was sent off for a bad challenge.

After playing Steeton in the second round of the West Riding County Cup, Town will host Burscough at Silentnight Stadium at 3pm this Saturday.

Barnoldswick Town (EL) 0

BARNOLDSWICK Town's East Lancashire League side had their recent run of good form come to an abrupt end on Saturday at Oswaldtwistle St Mary's.

Town had to contend with difficult conditions in the first half as they played in to a strong swirling wind. The home side took full advantage, putting some superb crosses into the heart of the visitors' defence.

The hosts scored after two minutes and never looked like surrendering their lead from that point onwards.

Three more goals on 25, 26 and 30 minutes extinguished any hopes the visitors may have had of a second half fight back. And the fifth goal on the stroke of half-time rounded off a fine first half display by the home team.

The extent to which the conditions had influenced the contest became apparent in the second half.

Town created a number of chances after the break and should have reduced the deficit, as they put in a much improved performance and defended stoutly to prevent the home side from increasing their lead.

Town’s next game is at home to Burnley Belvedere on Saturday, November 24, with a 2pm kick-off.

Barnoldswick Town Reserves also played last Saturday, but they lost 5-2 to Rimington Reserves.
