Barnoldswick Town 2

Burscough 0

BARNOLDSWICK Town moved up to fourth in Hallmark Security League Premier Division following this victory.

Town took the spoils following a dominant second-half display, through two goals in three minutes from Marc Young and Zack Dale.

It was their ninth win from their first 16 games of the season and sees them move onto 29 points.

Dale showed his attacking intentions in the first minute when his shot went wide. A scrappy opening period followed until the visitors hit the crossbar in the 23rd minute. A Burscough free-kick smashed onto the bar, the rebound fell to their striker but Town goalkeeper Ryan Livesey made a great block to keep it goalless.

The game was halted for three minutes on the half-hour when Jordan Casey suffered a head injury and was substituted by Terry Cummings. Town were struck by a second injury blow shortly afterwards when midfielder Peter Henerty was replaced by Donald Eumessi.

Shaun Airey had Town's next chance in the 38th minute, but his free header at the far post went over.

With no team dominating, Town made a half time change, as Josh Eastwood made way for Daniel Vincent.

Burscough had the best opening chance of the second period, when a stinging shot was saved by the impressive Livesey.

But it was Town who made the breakthrough two minutes later when Dale's corner was headed home by Young.

They quickly doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when Dale cut in from the left and fired a great strike into the top corner.

Buoyed by their commanding lead, Town made a substitution in the 67th minute when Lewis Morgan made way for Andrew Hill. Dale had a good chance in the same minute but fired wide.

Town's domination continued but they found themselves guilty of not converting their opportunities.

Jack Coop played in Dale three minutes from time, but he again put it wide.

Three minutes later, Dale's last chance of the contest was tipped wide by their keeper Maxwell Povey. Town's man of the match was Livesey.

Town travel to Abbey Hey on Saturday in their next Premier Division clash (kick-off 3pm).

Meanwhile, places are available for an Under-nines football tournament played at Barnoldswick Town's Silentnight Stadium.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 15, between 9am and 1pm.

Youngsters who take part can take a penalty against Town's first-team goalkeeper. It will also include a Santa's Grotto. Places are priced £25.
