EAST LANCASHIRE LEAGUE

Feniscowles and Pleasington 2

Barnoldswick Town 4

(match abandoned after 88 minutes)

A MATCH involving Barnoldswick Town and Feniscowles and Pleasington had to be abandoned after a melee ensued near the end of a wet and windy match at Blackburn on Saturday.

The weather conditions favoured the home side in the first half, as Feniscowles and Pleasington scored twice on 30 and 40 minutes to lead 2-0 at the interval.

Their second goal was a fluke as the wind took a speculative cross in to the far corner of the net.

Town knew they were still in with a chance of winning the game and they reduced the arrears almost immediately when a cross from Jordan Slade was headed home by Bobby Bell on 47 minutes.

The equaliser came three minutes later when Bailey Coates scored straight from a direct pass by goalkeeper Adam Wormwell.

Joe Brown was Town’s stand-out performer once again and he put the visitors into the lead for the first time in the game on 75 minutes with a superb solo run and finish.

The last few minutes proved far more eventful than anyone expected and Coates tested the home keeper, who was unable to hold his 88th minute shot.

The rebound fell to Bell, who made no mistake from 12 yards and completed a determined fight back by the Barnoldswick side.

The fourth goal prompted unseemly and violent scenes as a melee ensued and the match official, who had been excellent throughout, was left with no alternative but to abandon the game.

The match points and result have been deferred pending a full investigation by the league authorities.
