BARNOLDSWICK Town came away as 1-0 winners in a hard-fought league game at Northwich Victoria on Sunday.
A Zack Dale goal with ten minutes to go was all the visitors needed in their final game before the New Year.
Northwich Victoria almost took the lead early, but their shot was off target and they were flagged for off-side on the follow up.
Town then had a couple of chances through a corner, which was dealt with well, and the home keeper had to make a fine save.
Town started to dominate and had two further chances by Zack Dale and John Beckwith, but they went into the break at 0-0.
Early in the second half, Dale had another chance from a narrow angle but the keeper made a smart stop.
A great delivery by Andrew Hill created another opening for Town, but a defender got a flick on it as Shaun Airey attempted a header.
Daniel Vincent then went close, but the keeper stuck out his leg to block the deflected shot.
Brilliant work by substitute Teal Amos earned Town a corner and opened up another shot on goal.
Dale then made a great run but his shot was well saved by the keeper.
Amos continued to battle and his hard work created another chance for Dale, who took it and finished from a tight angle to break the deadlock and put Town 1-0 up on 81 minutes.
Town defended well to finish the game off, and they go into the New Year fifth in the league with at least two games in hand on the four teams above them in the table.
