A POOR display saw Barnoldswick Town beaten 5-0 by long-time rivals Charnock Richard on Saturday.

Town had a bright start, but in the 11th minute against the run of play a free header by Carl Grimshaw put the visitors 1-0 up against the run of play.

Zack Dale made a good run and his cross was cleared for a corner, but Town could take advantage, and poor defending cost them three minutes later when a ball found striker Mark Wood, who smashed a shot through the keeper's legs.

Grimshaw got his second in the 32nd minute, as his easy finish put the visitors 3-0 up.

Two minutes into the second half, Grimshaw secured his hat-trick and Charnock got their fifth goal in the 77th minute when Oliver Oxley scored.

Town have another tough game tomorrow at second placed Congleton Town tomorrow before travelling to Winsford United this Saturday.

Despite a loss by their first team, Barnoldswick Town's East Lancashire League side won 3-2 at Langho in the first ever meeting of the two clubs.

Barnoldswick Town's Jonny Davies opened the scoring after just four minutes, reacting swiftly to a loose ball in the opposing half.

Town totally dominated the opening exchanges, but Langho gradually asserted themselves and equalised from a penalty in the 12th minute.

Town’s cause was not helped when their defensive strong man Matthew Holt was forced off the pitch with an ankle injury around the quarter hour mark.

The two sides battled, but they went into half-time tied at 1-1.

Bailey Coates outpaced the home defence and his cool finish put Town ahead again in the 52nd minute, but the home side levelled the scores eight minutes later.

The outcome of the contest was decided on 75 minutes with a set piece straight from the training ground.

The move was instigated from a corner and involved four players as the home defence tried desperately to clear their lines.

Influential playmaker Oliver Venn, making a welcome return to the team as a substitute, smashed the ball home off the crossbar with an unstoppable half volley to secure all three points for the Barnoldswick side, who travel to Burnley Belvedere this Saturday.
