THERE was nothing but frustration for the local semi-professional sides as the deep frost and snow led to blanket postponements.

Some of the clubs, Vanarama National League North side Guiseley, Northern Counties East Premier Division outfit Eccleshill United, Hallmark Security League Premier Division Silsden and even National League side FC Halifax Town had no scheduled fixture.

As it turned out they were the lucky ones as they didn’t have to prepare for a game that was never going to be. The other eight clubs all endured a blank Saturday following pitch inspections.

The National League are allowed to call games off the previous day so Bradford (Park Avenue)’s players and supporters were aware that they had no game as the fixture was postponed late on Friday.

Farsley Celtic and Brighouse Town were both hopeful on Saturday morning that their Evo-Stik League games would get the go ahead.

The Celts were due to host basement boys North Ferriby United in the Premier Division while Vill Powell’s men also had a scheduled a home game with Stamford travelling in the Division One East.

Farsley’s was one of eight games in the top tier that were lost to the weather and they remain in third place as Warrington Town, who were level on points with the Celts but had a better goal difference, are the new leaders on goal difference after a 4-1 win at sixth-placed Gainsborough Trinity.

Brighouse knew that they would remain in second place in Division One East as they were six points behind leaders Morpeth Town but had a five-point cushion over third and fourth-placed Pontefract Collieries and Sheffield. Just one game in that division escaped the weather.

And it is as you were in the Northern Counties East League as all 19 of the games in that league’s two divisions were wiped out by the freeze.

Liversedge’s home game against Bridlington Town and Albion Sports and Thackley’s away games, at Athersley Recreation and Staveley MW respectively, in the Premier Division.

Campion were due to travel to Shirebrook Town in Division One but with all of the games off James Bicknell’s side remain three points clear at the summit even though they didn’t play.

Steeton couldn’t host second bottom Daisy Hill in the North West Counties Division One East as the pitch at Cougar Park was frozen.

All of the Bradford Sunday Alliance fixtures also fell foul of the weather, with the decision taken to cancel the entire programme on Saturday.
