SKIPTON Swimming Club won 16 medals and broke 18 club records at the annual Yorkshire Swimming Championships held at the John Charles Centre in Leeds.

Elite swimmers from all over the county, who have made the qualifying times, competed to be crowned the best in the Yorkshire.

The first two weekends in February saw the swimmers compete over all four strokes in the 100, 200 and 400 metres, with the addition of the 200 and 400 individual medley and 1500 metre free events.

A record 121 qualifying entries were made by Skipton Swimming Club for the first two weekends, unfortunately due to illness only 97 of these swims took place.

However, Skipton swimmers, who are coached by Ian Scrivin, came away with an impressive 16 top three positions, five of these gold medal swims and 54 top 10 finalist positions.

A spokesman for Skipton Swimming Club said: "Skipton held their own against the larger premier city clubs like Leeds and Sheffield."

Furthermore, 18 club records were broken, some having been held since 2005.

Skipton swimmers are now back in training before the Sprints and Team Championship weekend on February 24 and 25 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
