WHILE Barnoldswick Town crashed out of the Macron Cup in a 3-2 loss at 1874 Northwich on Friday, their East Lancashire League side beat Barnoldswick Barons 3-1 in a Morrison Cup derby match at Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

In the Hallmark Security League Macron Cup quarter-final game, a strong second half performance was not enough as 1874 Northwich beat ten-man Barnoldswick to progress to the semi-finals of the competition, buoyed by three first half goals.

Taylor Kennerley put the home side 1-0 up in the 12th minute when he got on the end of cross and scored from close range.

Town skipper James Crorken equalised seven minutes later when he nestled a shot in the bottom right corner from 20 yards out.

Jack Irlam put 1874 Northwich back in front in the 33nd minute when he slotted past Ryan Livesey as Town did not deal with a free-kick into the box.

Another set-piece five minutes later saw Scott McGowan make it 3-1 to 1874 Northwich.

The home keeper made a fine save to deny Jack Coop early in the second half, and Livesey made a great double save to stop Kennerley from putting 1874 Northwich 4-1 ahead.

Town had to work even harder when Andrew Hill was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card with 20 minutes left.

But that did not stop the resilient Barnoldswick side, who clawed one back when substitute Teal Amos scored in the 83rd minute.

Zack Dale also created a chance for himself after the goal, but it was not to be as Town went down to a 3-2 defeat.

Barnoldswick Town's East Lancashire League ran out 3-1 winners against Barnoldswick Barons in the Craven FA Morrison Cup game on Saturday.

Town, who are the cup holders, got off to a good start inside five minutes when James Hughes headed in a cross by James Butler.

A mix up in the Town defence in the 28th minutes saw Barons striker Gaz Turner capitalise on failed clearance to slot into an open goal.

Town responded and just four minutes later, Hughes set up Bailey Coates who made no mistake in restoring the lead for the home side.

Two full length saves by Town goalkeeper Adam Wormwell kept the score at 2-1 going into the half-time break.

Barons pressured Town well in the second half, but Jordan Slade settled the game in the 75th minute when he latched on to a pass by Sam Parry, raced through the Barons' defence and rounded the keeper to stroke the ball into an empty net.
