SILSDEN exacted revenge on North West Counties Premier Division high-fliers Congleton Town with a 4-1 home victory that made up for the 5-0 drubbing away in December.

The Bears are third in the table and had come to the Cobbydale Construction Stadium seeking the three-point maximum that would have taken them to the 60-point mark.

The last time the clubs met, Danny Forrest’s men had slipped to sixth after leading the division for a long while as their slide gathered momentum. But Saturday’s win lifted the Sils back into the top half of the table.

They broke the deadlock midway through the first half through Arley Barnes and Aidan Kirby netted their second minutes before half-time. Bears keeper Craig Ellison was beaten again just after the hour mark as Niall Sultan added Silsden’s third.

Laurence Sorhaindo had come off the bench to replace Luke Rhodes in the 73rd minute and it took the substitute just four minutes to get on the score sheet. He grabbed the Cobbydalers’ fourth but there was to be no clean sheet for the home side as Congleton striker and captain Steve Foster netted the visitors’ consolation 10 minutes from time.
