A SECOND half hat-trick by Alex Hughes saw Barnoldswick Town lose 3-1 against Whitchurch Alport at Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

Hughes' three goals all came within a five-minute period, and Town did not score until extra time.

Both teams had some good chances in the first half, but the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Hughes scored Whitchurch's first goal in the 56th minute.

Two minutes later, he got the second goal via a free-kick.

He then completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute with a strike by Ryan Livesey in goal.

Shaun Airey finally put Barnoldswick Town on the scoreboard with a consolation goal three minutes into extra time.

The result sees Town drop to eighth place in the Premier Division of the Hallmark Security League.

Two of the league's other Craven teams, Silsden and Steeton, were both due to play at home last Saturday, but their matches against Padiham and Holker Old Boys, respectively, had to be postponed because of waterlogged pitches.
