WATER Street Primary School won two trophies in a Skipton area table tennis tournament.

In its third year, the Scarabis Shield Table Tennis Tournament saw the best table tennis stars from five local primary schools go head to head.

Years 5 and 6 from Greatwood, Carleton, Water Street, Gargrave and Parish Church primary schools all competed at Sandylands Sport Centre to see who would be victorious and take home the shield.

Steve Gower, from sponsor scarabis.com, said: "The standard of table tennis displayed was really high; there are definitely some future star players in the making.

"As well as demonstrating high quality play, the sportsmanship of the children was impeccable. All of the schools taking part should be rightly proud of their students.

"Many thanks to Katie Hoggarth from Craven Sports Partnership for running the event, and to the members of staff from the various schools who umpired the matches."

As well as Water Street winning the Scarabis Shield for best school, Joe Birks from Water Street won a trophy for best individual player, followed by runner-up Oliver Frew from Gargrave Primary School.
