SKIPTON Golf Club’s summer season got under way at the weekend in traditional fashion with players competing for the Improvised Trophy, which allows each player just three clubs and a putter.
As is often the case, the limitation on clubs produced some remarkable scoring with the top three players in Division One registering no fewer than 16 birdies between them.
Top of the pile was Chris Simpson, whose good form from last year shows no signs of letting up.
His net 64 from an eight handicap was one ahead of Rob Windle in second with Gavin Stocker in third on net 69 playing from scratch.
The leader in Division Two was Richard Naylor, whose net 68 was two ahead of second placed Liam Steadman.
