THERE was a disappointing turnout at Settle Golf Club over the weekend, despite there being the first silverware of the season on offer to the winner of the Bernard Cox Stableford Trophy.

The competitors who did play found scoring quite difficult but most came in with reasonable scores in the high twenties.

However, both Frankie Eccleston and John Holliday bucked the trend, both managing to break the 30 barrier.

Holliday managed a very respectable 32, but it was Eccleston who got his hands on the trophy with an outstanding 34 points.

Despite missing out on the 11th hole, the winner put together a solid round which contained six pars.

The senior section of the club got their season off to the best possible start with a 6-0 victory over a team from the Lansil club.

Unfortunately they were unable to maintain this form in the match against Ghyll, going down 5-1.
