BARNOLDSWICK Town went down to a 6-1 defeat at high-flying Congleton Town at Silentnight Stadium on Tuesday.

Zack Dale got Barnoldswick off to a flying start when he scored from the kick-off to put the home side up 1-0.

It was Dale's 38th goal of the season, as he face a three-way battle with Carl Grimshaw of Charnock Richard and Scott McGowan of 1874 Northwich to be the top goalscorer in the league.

However, just five minutes after Barlick's good start Congleton Town equalised. They then went 2-1 up in the 15th minute.

In the 25th minute, substitute Nathan Emery, who has had a long lay-off due to injury, came on for Lewis Morgan.

Then with five minutes to go before half-time, Congleton scored a goal to go 3-1 up.

Congleton's pace and power was too much for Barnoldswick as they scored three more goals in the second half to run out 6-1 winners.

Congleton remain third in the Hallmark Security League's Premier Division, while Barnoldswick stay in the 10th.

Barnoldswick travel to Ashton Athletic this Saturday before hosting Silsden in an Easter Bank Holiday Monday derby at Silentnight Stadium.

They finish the season on Saturday, April 27, with a home game against Abbey Hey, who are bottom of the Premier Division.
