CRAVEN FA CUP FINAL
Rimington 2
Settle United 2
(Settle won 4-3 on penalties)
A BUMPER crowd last Friday witnessed Settle complete a Craven FA Cup win for a second successive season, albeit after a penalty shoot-out.
Rimington took the lead with a well-executed goal by Matt Bagot on 20 minutes, as his side had taken control of the game.
They further increased their lead through James Toothill, and a missed chance by Rimington could have put the game out of Settle's reach.
A treble substitution proved the turning point in the game and Settle reduced the lead through Will Beckwith.
With only four minutes left in the game, the equaliser came when a Beckwith shot was diverted on to the bar by the Rimington keeper, only for sub Matthew Baines to fire home, much to delight of the Settle supporters.
For the second successive district cup final, the game had to be settled by penalties.
James Hamer was to able to save two poorly hit penalties from Rimington while Graeme Kershaw, the Rimington keeper, was powerless to save four firmly struck penalties from the victors.
Settle have now completed the double for the second successive season, winning both the Craven League and Craven FA Cup.
