THE vast expanse of Skyrakes Farm high above Gargrave was bathed in weak sunshine on Sunday when the Horsforth Motor Club staged its annual Geoff Milnes Trophy Trial.

Even after heavy rain, the ground was firm and dry for the 48 competitors.

The trial route took in seven sections on the west ridge where the observer enjoyed a fine view of the Gargrave regions. Those sections featured rocky climbs.

Class winners Kieran Child, Jamie Stephenson, Phillip Hammond incurred minor penalties while overall victor Harry Hemingway did not incur any penalties, on the entire 14 section.

The East Keswick youngster glided through every section repeating his clean sweep of the previous Sunday at the Brian Clarkson trial.

His younger brother George also won his class, so it was only his father Dan who let the side down by finishing second to Child.

George’s main rival was cousin Alfie Lampkin, who tangled with section 11, losing nine of his 12 mark total.

* West Leeds Motor Club staged its third novice and beginner’s trial at Post Hill on Saturday.

Forty-seven competitors, over half who were 40 years or over, took part in a fine day of trialling.

The format was the tried and tested four laps and ten section.

On the main course Steve Fowler got his Beta home to win overall and be the best over 40 competitor ahead of West Leeds club secretary Mark Chippendale and Skipton’s Richard Pearson.

On the 50/50 route, Nick Hammerton incurred one penalty in the first section which won him the class and the over 60’s laurels.

The same result occurred on the beginners course, where Steve Wicks won overall and also claimed the over 60's crown.

Jeff Prior and his team plotted the trials course.

West Leeds will run the fourth event in the series on June 22.

* Denby Dale trials rider Jack Price won the St David's Trial, the second event in the British Trials Championship series at Neath, on Sunday.

He beat Redruth Beta UK contender Tim Martyn and Kirbymoorside Sherco teamster Dan Peace. That trio head the championship score line.

In the Trial 2 category, Leyburn’s Richard Sadler was placed fourth.
