THE Paul Dutton Memorial competition attracted a good field at Settle Golf Club over the weekend, and it was encouraging to see newly joined members taking part in the tournament.
Once again it was John Read who set down a competitive marker coming home with a well-constructed 34 stableford points.
However, this proved well within the capabilities of playing partners Peter Eccleston and Martin Scaife.
Eccleston played really solidly, scoring 18 on the front nine and 19 coming back
But it was Scaife, making a rare Sunday appearance, who blew the rest of the field away, starting his round with three consecutive pars.
Although he was unable to maintain this level of consistency, he did match Eccleston's 18 points on the front nine.
Having bogeyed the tricky tenth hole, Scaife then played six of the next seven holes to par, finally finishing three shots clear of the rest of the field to deservedly get his hands on the Dutty Memorial Trophy.
