YOUNGSTERS from the Craven area won a number of medals at a karate competition in Halifax.

British Sport Karate Federation took a team of 23 athletes to the second Halifax Open Karate Championships and came third in the medal table.

Around 500 athletes travelled from England, Scotland and Wales to compete in the competition.

Emily Moran, who attends Sutton CP School, topped the medals and came away with two golds, one in kickmaster and the other in her team kumite fight, and silver in her individual kumite fight.

Other gold medals came from Harvey Osborne and Stella Osborne, who attend Kildwick Primary School; Imaan Shan, who attends Skipton Girls' High School; Jack Moran and Joshua Elliot, who attend South Craven School, and Troy Darnbrough and Yasin Ahmed, who attend Craven College.

Another gold went to Panayiotis Loizides, who represents Cyprus in karate but lives and trains at NCAA in Silsden.

Silvers went to Benjamin Shaw, who attends Sutton CP School, one for his individual kumite fight and one for kickmaster.

Others silvers went to Shan, Darnbrough and Ahmed.

Bronze medals went to Blyss Edwards, Stella Osborne, Joshua Elliot, Jason Kelly, Rosina Parkinson and Hillary Walker.
